As artists and printers we've found that there's A LOT of confusion when it comes to what size you can print your artwork out at. I get it! I, myself, am 100% not a math wiz and figuring out those complicated aspect ratios can make my brain throb and hurt. But the silver lining is I'm not a lost cause because I can follow a simple chart. That’s where an easy aspect ratio chart comes in handy. An aspect ratio chart is basically a fancy term for a chart that tells you how you can print a piece of art at different sizes without losing any of the art in cropping. Let’s go through an example. Say your painting is a 24x30" when you painted it at it’s original size. Then your options for printing would have to match the original ratio (unless you want cropping and most artists want to keep the compositional integrity of the original piece of art) so this is where you'd reference the handy -dandy chart and then say to yourself, "Oh, I can print this piece at 4x5", 8x10", 16x20" and so on and so forth. Voila. How easy! So here's a chart we made up for easy reference for all artists to help you figure out what sizes you can print easily without yucky cropping. Feel free to download and print this FREE resource and use it when you are planning what sizes you are going to print your beautiful artwork out at. We hope this helps!
